Coming into Defend the North, the competitive scene is still riding the momentum and motivation earned from the EVO 2016 stage. Many players who may not have achieved their goals at EVO came to this tournament looking to prove themselves, shown through the very intense competition and battles to get to the Street Fighter V Top 8.

This Top 8 alligns as:

Winners Bracket:

   F3|Alucard (on Birdie/Necalli) vs. EG|K-Brad (on Cammy)

EG|Ricki Ortiz (on Chun Li) vs. NVT|Flash Metroid (on Vega)

Losers Bracket:

FOX|Julio Fuentes (on Ken) vs. THG|D-Rezz (on Necalli)

TS|Arturo Sanchez (on Dhalsim) vs. Liquid|NuckleDu (on Nash)

This Street Fighter V top 8 is composed of some of the top Street Fighter V talents out right now, as well as some lesser known faces. Overall, the eight competitors making it to this stage, and the road they fought through to get here, bring many stories.

For instance, Arturo’s top 8 finish is coming off of a huge performance at EVO 2016, where he managed to take down EG Momochi’s Ken in the pools with his own Dhalsim in one of the best Street Fighter V matches in recent memory. If he makes it by Liquid’s very own NuckleDu and his super tight Nash play, he could very well face one of Momochi’s winner bracket placing teammates K-Brad or Ricki Ortiz moving forward. Can EG take back the loss?

Another interesting thing to watch is the performance of THG’s D-Rezz. He is not an unknown name, but this is D-Rezz’s first big result of the Capcom Pro Tour 2016 season, and he’s managed to forge quite the path of victory to get here, showing some serious Necalli skills, and only dropped to losers bracket by winners bracket competitor Ricki Ortiz, hardly a result to worry about. It will be interesting to see D-Rezz’s position moving forward, taking on arguably one of the best American Street Fighter V names in Julio Fuentes, and his incredibly dangerous Ken.
